I spent the last weekend literally running from brewery to brewery for charity in the Ottawa Beer Run, so I had to think on my toes when it came to finding a pub to cover this week. Thankfully I was already familiar with the Arrow and Loon in the Glebe, so The Bear’s morning guy McCord and I decided to drop in for a few pints.

Why you want to experience this place

Because it’s “downtown” without being “down town.” Does that make sense? Once there, you have the convenience to hit up whatever “hip happenin’” club your friends are dragging you too, its close to cabs & public transit, and offers a cheap cab ride to centretown and the market.

arrownloon1This place offers a short list of all the locals brews you need to try and boasts an extensive list of porters and stouts (which is my jam).

Take into context, for this blog I visited Arrow and Loon last minute on a Tuesday evening. I have been here with friends prior to this blogging business and had a blast on the patio (which is currently closed for the season). The staff is ON IT when it comes to ordering, and helped me out when I threw them the old “Well, I drink Guinness – next to that, what have you got” set up. Helpful and not invasive; my friends and I didn’t feel swarmed, rather, Arrow and Loon gave us the vibe that we were just slammin’ a few great brews in the kitchen, just shootin’ the breeze.

“The Arrow and Loon features a variety of 29 local craft microbrews from across Ontario and Quebec, and a rotating selection of 3 cask conditioned real ales. We also boast a wide selection of bottles including gluten-free and non-alcoholic options.”

First date potential:

Good! The Mayfair Theatre is close by and Landsdown is ALSO close. Soon enough, the business coming from our CFL (and what comes with it) will pump up the local scene. I recommend cozying up to Arrow and Loon’s barstaff now, lest you get lumped in to the “joiners” when this locale blows up!

For Singles:

What can I say? I came in on a Tuesday evening with co-worker. Do I think this place is a nice spot to possibly “run in”

I highly recommend the Turtle Island Dark Honey Brown

to your soulmate? No. Honestly, no. BUT, Arrow and Loon is in a GREAT location. So mixing and mingling is up to you after you share a few pints with friends… Am I right?! ;)

This is a great place for Centretown/Glebe residents to discover if searching for a new hang out!
